Thanks to the advent of antiretroviral therapy (ART), people with HIV/AIDS are living longer and healthier lives. But there can be many side effects to HIV drugs, including but not limited to: weight gain or loss, diarrhea, fatigue, headaches, rashes, sleep disorders and nerve pain and numbness. As well, once an HIV positive individual begins treatment, she/he must remain on it for the rest of their life in order to prevent drug resistance from developing.
