ARCHES is now hiring full-time, part-time, and casual Harm Reduction Specialists for Supervised Consumption Services. This is an exciting opportunity at ARCHES. The agency provides Harm Reduction programming to Southwestern Alberta as well as support services to people living with HIV/AIDS and/or HCV. Harm Reduction Specialist Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the Harm Reduction Specialist will have a good understanding of substance use, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, harm reduction, and population health principles. The Harm Reduction Specialist is a member of an interdisciplinary team providing Supervised Consumption Services. The Harm Reduction Specialist provides support in admitting and controlling the flow and numbers of clients in the Supervised Consumption Services. The Harm Reduction Specialist orients clients to the Supervised Consumption Services and works to build rapport and engage clients in meaningful activity within the site. This position supports the nurse in the supervision of clients who are administering their own substances. Should conflict arise with or among clients, this position will have the skill and knowledge to deescalate situations according to established protocols. The Harm Reduction Specialist facilitates access to counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation services for clients accessing the harm reduction programmes. The Harm Reduction Specialist will work at strengthening the provision of comprehensive, non-judgmental harm reduction services for individuals at risk of contracting blood-borne pathogens, especially those affected by substance use/abuse. Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants who hold a degree/diploma in Social Sciences, Health or a related human service field; however, individuals currently working towards a degree/diploma and/or who have lived experience will be considered. The applicant will have a minimum of one years’ experience in a related field. The applicant will be required to work well independently and as a team member. Experience in working with Indigenous Groups and Communities is an asset. The Harm Reduction Specialist must hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to an insured reliable vehicle. A Criminal Background Check including vulnerable sector, current and clear Youth Intervention Check, and valid First Aid Certificates are required. The agency provides Harm Reduction programming to Southwestern Alberta as well as support services to people living with HIV/AIDS and/or HCV. Addictions Specialist Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the Addictions Specialist will have a good understanding of substance use, mental health, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C, harm reduction and population health principles. The Addictions Specialist is a member of an interdisciplinary team providing Supervised Consumption Services. This position requires a professional who is committed to harm reduction and passionate about working with people who use drugs and/or are living with mental health issues. The Addictions Specialist will conduct comprehensive substance use assessments, provide formal and informal counselling, direct referrals to detox and treatment as well as assist with systems navigation support to access the same. The Addictions Specialist, alongside a Nurse, will supervise clients who are administering their own substances. The Addictions Specialist will work closely with a team of clinicians and other professionals to support the improved health and wellness of people who use drugs in our community. This position is responsible for promoting harm reduction and, when indicated by clients, integrating recovery and treatment for substance use issues. Qualifications: The Addictions Specialist will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Addictions, Social Work, Public Health or a related human service field; a Masters degree is preferred. The applicant will have at least two year’s professional experience with substance use/addictions, social services, counselling, and community development. Expertise in the area of harm reduction and addictions counselling is required. The Addictions Specialist must hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to an insured reliable vehicle. ARCHES is now hiring full-time and casual Registered Nurses for Supervised Consumption Services. This is an exciting opportunity at ARCHES. The agency provides Harm Reduction programming to Southwestern Alberta as well as support services to people living with HIV/AIDS and/or HCV. Registered Nurse Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, this position functions as part of an interdisciplinary team, seeing clients from diverse populations. This position requires a professional who is committed to harm reduction and passionate about working with people who use drugs and/or are living with mental health issues. The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide care to individuals accessing services at ARCHES. The RN is a central member of the team in a facility offering Supervised Consumption Services. The primary responsibility of the RN is to provide clinical care in managing the health needs of vulnerable/marginalized individuals accessing Supervised Consumption Services. The RN works with clients and communities who are at high risk for overdose and communicable diseases. The RN supervises clients who are administering their own substances. These clients may present with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases, including communicable diseases, addictions and general health issues. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in client-centered care and education. Qualifications:  Graduation from a recognized nursing education program.  Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).  Computer literacy skills mandatory (i.e., EDIS, NetCare, etc.).  Recent experiences working in a community care setting, is preferred.  Must be able to support a flexible work schedule.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members.  Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.  Ability to function independently.  Excellent at working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.  Work well under pressure and stressful situations.  Application and knowledge of current research.  Experience in a wide range of assessment, health promotion, harm reduction, and follow-up care in the community considered an asset  Must understand and practice within full scope of their profession...

This March, ARCHES  Society will welcome spring by hosting its annual Gerbera Daisy SPRING FOR LIFE fundraising campaign, and we are looking for your support to ensure its success. Spring for Life is one of our major fundraisers for the year, and all proceeds support the programs of ARCHES, which provides services to those living with HIV/AIDS in Southwestern Alberta. In order to make the campaign successful, we rely on the generosity of people and businesses like yours. The Spring for Life campaign features 5 brightly coloured mini Gerbera daisies for the low price of $5.00 a bouquet.
