We currently have two exciting opportunities available: Program Coordinator and Bookkeeper.  Please read below. Program Coordinator This new part-time position (21 hours/week) requires a compassionate, non-judgmental professional to support the programs of the Lethbridge HIV Connection Society. Programs will include group facilitation but will focus on outreach for the prevention of the transmission of HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections throughout Southwestern Alberta with a special focus on people of Aboriginal heritage and people with a history of injection drug use. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for light administrative duties as required by the Executive Director. Minimum qualifications: This position is ideal for a student with at least two years of post secondary education in Addictions Counseling or Social Work or in a related Human Service Field.  An understanding of Harm Reduction Principles, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and population health principles are an asset. Individuals whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C are encouraged to apply. All applicants need a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle. Minimum qualifications: This position requires an individual with at least five years accounting experience with excellent knowledge and experience with the QuickBooks Accounting System.  A post-secondary education is preferred but consideration will be given for comparable experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for all of the agency’s book-keeping, including invoice entry into QuickBooks and cheque writing; maintaining financial records and financial forms; keeping pay records for all employees; assisting in budget planning; banking and audit coordination. Vancouver’s Portland Hotel Society has done it again, they have led the way with an exciting new harm reduction initiative. This time they are selling crack pipes (glass stems) from vending machines for the nominal price of $0.25 each as a way to make safer inhalation supplies more accessible. For those who support harm reduction, the practice of providing new pipes is the same as providing new needles: it is a proven method of reducing the transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C. The Lethbridge HIV Connection currently does not supply pipes as the Alberta Government has not yet determined if they are legal or will be considered drug paraphernalia, which means staff members could be arrested and charged for distributing them.
